My oldest son Ryan has been talking about going to college since he was in middle school. He wants to be a paleontologist, which definitely requires a college degree, but I have a confession to make – we have no college fund for him. I know, a few dollars a month + compound interest should have meant at least something in the bank, but the scary fact I’m facing as he heads into High School this Fall is that Chris and I will have very little to contribute towards Ryan’s college expenses. Yikes.
Having gone to college, I can close my eyes and picture Ryan fitting right in. I can see him at MSU moving into a dorm, meeting his roommate, making friends. I can see him walking to class along the banks of the Red Cedar River. I can see him taking notes, reading books, writing papers.
Ryan at college feels like fish in water, like it is where he is meant to be, but the cost, oh man, the cost. His straight-A grades mean he will most likely get scholarships, but unless they are for full rides, we’ll have to come up with money somehow.
That’s why I took this campaign with Upromise. They have put up a “Dream Wall” at www.upromisetodream.com where anyone can submit their dream for their child. My post on the Dream Wall was similar to the beginning of this post. For ten weeks, Upromise is giving away $1,000 a week towards college expenses, plus a Grand Prize of $10,000!
If you’re looking for a way to get extra money towards your child’s college expenses, I encourage you to enter the Upromise to Dream contest too. Read the dream wall official rules and get your post up on the Dream Wall! Leave me a comment too if you want to share what your dream is. Ryan wants to be a paleontologist – what does your child want to be?
