It’s the first official day of summer break for my kids and parents know what that means – they are going to be in and out of the kitchen all day. The boys don’t eat breakfast, at least not in the traditional sense. Ryan will have some toast and peanut butter when he gets up and Nathan has coffee with creamer and sugar. But then the bored snacking will start, or at least they will attempt to sneak as many snacks out of the kitchen as they can without me noticing. I want to plan ahead for snacks and lunch so that I’m not caught up in work and suddenly it’s 2:00 and I have no idea what to fix.
To help me with my planning, I’m using a meal planning binder I bought from Christine of Dine Without Whine called “Kid Approved Meals”. It’s got 13 weeks of breakfasts and lunches with a shopping list for each week, plus snack ideas and a section to fill in with printed-out dinner recipes from Christine’s Dine Without Whine Weekly Menu Plan service. Click that link, which is my affiliate link, to see a sample menu. I’ve been an affiliate of Dine Without Whine for years because I’m such a fan! Here’s what I’ve planned so far for this week.

Whew! My goal for this summer is to strike a balance between having enough food in the house to feed myself and the kids during the day, and keep the kids from eating all the groceries on Monday and then whining about how there’s “nothing to eat” LOL

looks good. Have a great week.
I love how you do breakfast and lunch too! Should make it so much easier to know what you are going to be eating for each meal every day!
It’s crazy how much of life revolves around food, eh?
If you run out of ideas or need fast, on-the-fly kinds of things, I’ve adored OnceAMonthMom.com’s site for years. Tons of yummy freezer recipes, breakfasts, lunches *and* dinners (since we homeschool and hubby works from home, yup, it’s all on me, all the time – half my planner is food related with daily columns with the menu plan and a tab for the current weekly recipes to be stashed for easy grabbing).
Bonus to planning ahead like this is that you can usually get away with one well-planned grocery trip a week, or even once every two weeks (I have yet to hit that magic mark – sometimes we’ll eat more cheese than I’d planned or something, and off to Costco we go).

This menu looks like something i should make for my family this weekend.. Yummy!
Kids always enjoy planned menu. See how they get excited craving for that food at the end of the week. One more great thing about it is that the family is complete, a truly memorable bonding each meal time.
