Shortly before I left for BlogHer ’12,. I got a package of products to review from Poise. The timing couldn’t have been better, since traveling for me means drinking lots of extra water, but then I’m on a plane where I have to wait to use the bathroom, or running to get to the connecting gate, or waiting in long lines at the conference itself. And I’m going to be completely honest here – because why not? – this year has taught me that it’s ALWAYS a good idea for me to wear some kind of pad in case I don’t quite make it to the bathroom.
It’s one of those things that doesn’t get discussed, until you are sitting in a hotel bar with a longtime blog friend who is also over 40 and also has children, and you confess with wide eyes that sometimes when you stand up to go to the bathroom, you realize you have already started going, and she just nods and says “yep, me too”. And then the conversation rolls naturally over to perimenopause, that lovely state of a woman’s life where her hormones change and she starts experiencing things like sudden hot flashes and night sweats.
The problem for me was that when it started happening to me, I had no idea what was going on. All I knew was that I was waking up in the middle of the night so sweaty that I had to change my t-shirt. My Mom passed away in 1997, so we never got a chance to have “The Talk” about the onset of menopause. Or, as Poise calls it, the 2nd Talk, the first one being the one Moms and daughters have about periods. On the 2nd Talk page, you’ll find videos and stories featuring women experiencing the same changes you are. Watch, read, share—and make your voice heard by counting yourself in as a 2nd Talk participant. On the 2nd talk page, you’ll find videos and stories from women experiencing menopause. There’s a place to share your own story, ask questions of experts, read blog posts, print coupons, and of course, learn more about Poise products for menopause symptom relief.
You might already be familiar with Poise pads and liners, and now they have a new line of products designed to help you approach menopause with confidence. When the package arrived for review, and I saw the Cooling Towelettes, I knew right away that I was going to take them to BlogHer with me – and I was SO glad I did! It was so hot and humid in New York that weekend, and every time I stepped outside, I immediately broke out into a sweat. I kept the Cooling Towelettes in my bag, and a wipe of my face, neck, and chest helped me feel a lot more confident about talking to people, knowing I wasn’t all shiny and sweaty. Ick.
Besides the Cooling Towelettes, Poise* Roll-On Cooling Gel is a revolutionary new product that helps you feel comfortable and refreshed. Gently roll it onto your wrists, chest or neck for a cooling sensation that lasts up to 10 minutes. It’s lightly scented, moisturizing and discreet. Concerned that light bladder leakage might cause odor? New Poise Panty Fresheners are discreet, feminine fresheners that stick to the outside of your undergarment and provide a clean and fresh scent that lasts up to 4 hours. Each pack comes with 24 individual use fresheners.

I like the idea of the Poise* Roll-On Cooling Gel. To relieve hot flashes you can run your wrist under the tap, but what if there’s no tap nearby? This could go in your bag and you would have something to cool off everywhere you go! Genius!
