As a professional magician, I’m interested in how we can influence and persuade people through our words and actions. Some of this applies to what I do in performance, but it’s also useful for business too.

I had to chuckle over the part about laugh tracks. Did you know most were recorded decades ago, so the people we hear laughing are long since dead? Not so funny anymore, are they? LOL
As for looking up when others were… er, maybe I’m just paranoid, but actually that’s the time when I’d start holding my purse a little closer and looking around just to make sure some pickpocket wasn’t working in cahoots with the first guy.

I had no idea laugh tracks were recorded that long ago – that IS creepy. I hadn’t thought about the pickpocket factor either but yeah, I sure wouldn’t stop on the sidewalk in some cities lol
I do hate the idea that we are always being sold to ,and that our thoughts can be manipulated. In our office, a fast poll revealed that Women believe that they can filter out of this barrage of information what they don’t need, and require all o this information in order to make a decision. Almost as if they fel as if they are in control of the situation. Interesting
My husband has a silly game that we all play (and I’m pretty sure he does it on his communte every day) but when we’re at a stop light we all turn our heads to look at something and watch the cars behind us to see if they look. Try it sometime. They look. Silly but shows how true and powerful persuasion is.

I never thought of the art of persuation, but reading your examples I recognize myself in many examples.
Very interesting. I can totally see why persuasion would be an art
