Get Your Business Cards Ready For Blog Conferences!

Blog conference season is kicking off soon with Blissdom in Nashville later this month (I’ve ALWAYS wanted to go, someone please sponsor me for next year? pretty please?), and one thing new bloggers often miss is the importance of having a business card to hand out. Every year at BlogHer I give my card to someone who says “oh geez, I didn’t even think about getting business cards!”

A business card is important because it does two things – 1. it gives the person you are meeting all of your important information in an easy to carry format, and 2. it helps them remember meeting you! I often get emails months after conferences from people who write that they had held on to my card until they had a campaign that I was a good fit for.

What should you put on your business card? It’s really up to you and what you are comfortable sharing, but at the very least, include your blog name, your name, your blog URL, and your email address. After that, it’s up to you! Some people go very minimal with business cards, and some include links to everything. Personally, I try to balance a card that is actually readable with lots of ways for people to connect with me online. I’ve also started including my photo on my cards, because I have a hard time remembering which blog goes with which face when I look at my cards after the conference, so I want people to remember my face! lol

Shop around online for a good deal on printing services, you can often even get your first order of business cards free from a site you haven’t used before, you just pay the shipping. I do recommend ordering at least 250 cards, you’ll be surprised how quickly you’ll hand those out. I keep business cards in my wallet at all times so that when I meet the parent of one of my kids’ friends, I can hand them a card and they have my phone number and email address handy!

Chris brought home a huge dry erase board someone at work didn’t want anymore. Kaitlyn LOVES it.

Lately she’s been setting up a “class” made up of her toys, usually a bunch of Squinkies lined up facing the board. Then, she writes the “lessons” on the board!

I Just Did Something Really Stupid

I slept really badly last night and woke up exhausted, clearly that’s not the best state of mind for me to be in when drafting a blog post. I went into my Friday Fives post from last week to grab the badge code so I could just copy/paste it into today’s post – and somehow ended up writing OVER the post from last week. Like, I have no idea how that even happened. But the 1-20-12 post is gone, and the 16 comments left on it are now attached to today’s post.

And I’ve even had coffee already this morning. Sigh. Okay, so does anyone know how I can recover that post? Shouldn’t it be saved somewhere? Help!
