taking it one day at a time since 1996
Three kids to get ready for the 2011-2012 school year. One who wants only hot lunch (the oldest) and two that want cold. Three backpacks. Enough folders and loose leaf paper and regular pencils and colored pencils to outfit a classroom.
The surprise of 40 degree weather this morning, a check of the five day forecast on Weather.com, digging fleece hoodies out of the closet.
Spongebob backpack just for Kaitlyn embroidered with her name (shout-out to personalcreations.com) and bearing two large white cards pinned to the front, one telling the Kindergarten teacher that she goes to K.A.P. (Kindergarten Activity Program, basically another half-day of school, just less formal) at 11:40, and one telling the K.A.P. teacher what bus to put her on at 3:30.
New Hello Kitty tennis shoes, new Disney Fairies lunch bag, EasyLunchboxes.com lunch containers.
Forms signed, schedules copied, more forms.
The stress of a morning schedule that includes getting up way too early, driving Chris to carpool, and then racing back just in time to meet the bus, which picks Kaitlyn up directly in front of our house. Crossing my fingers for no traffic jams.
One in High School, one in Middle School, one in Kindergarten. This is going to be a very interesting school year.

I’m totally lazy when it comes to summertime meals, but especially so with breakfast and lunch. I let my two oldest kids make up their own meals from what’s available in the kitchen, and usually can get one of them to make something for their sister, too. But now with the school year approaching, I once again need to put on my chef hat and start making meal plans that include easy, budget-friendly breakfasts and lunches. No more deciding to eat breakfast at 10:00 in the morning!
This Spark from SocialSpark has info for Table for Five readers about Mission Flour Tortillas, and the many meals and snacks that can be made with them. I don’t know what it is about a tortilla, but somehow, the “same old” turkey, cheese, and lettuce sandwich suddenly tastes brand new if it’s rolled up in a tortilla! Mission Flour Tortillas have 0 grams of Trans Fat (the bad kind) per serving, and no cholesterol. And there are a ton of different ways to use them!
MissionMenus.com is the place to start for Mission – Back To School recipes using all of Mission’s tortilla varieties. Click “Mission Cookbook”, then search by product or ingredient, or click the drop-down menus to choose a tortilla staple like fajitas or quesadillas, plus a protein.
You can also get a $.75 cents off coupon by signing up for emails from Mission that include ideas for quick and delicious meals you can make with Mission Flour Tortillas.
Feedback for Mission: The drop-down menu does not list “eggs” as a protein, so none of the breakfast wrap recipes come up. Also, there is not a single recipe that uses turkey ?!? The aforementioned turkey, cheese and lettuce, with some mayo or ranch dressing rolled up in a flour tortilla, is one of my kids’ favorites! Please add some turkey recipes
Here’s some recipes I found that I can see my kids eating:
Mission Flour Tortillas come in a variety of sizes – small (6″), medium (8″) and large (10″) – in major grocery stores nationwide.
With so many ways to use them, Mission tortillas should be a staple in every busy Mom’s pantry!
