Obama: All Access- Barack Obama’s Road to the White House

obamadvdYou can now own, on DVD, the most complete account of what may be the greatest American political story ever told: The historic rise of Barack Obama from Illinois Senator to the United States’ first African-American president. “Obama: All Access – Barack Obama’s Road to the White House” is the result of two years of 60 MINUTES coverage with exclusive access granted only to 60 MINUTES and correspondent Steve Kroft. The nearly four-hour DVD debuts the first week of February as the inaugural 60 MINUTES-branded DVD from CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment.

Even though I watched all of his appearances on 60 MINUTES, I still enjoyed watching this DVD. I just never get tired of hearing Barack Obama talk! And to see him with his wife, who is so obviously his friend and partner, and with his beautiful daughters,  it warms my heart every time. This is exactly what you get on this DVD:

* The 44th President (November 16, 2008) – This 38-minute post-election interview with President Obama goes into the economy, automobile industry, bail-out, his Washington apartment and getting a family dog and his mother-in-law. Also, interesting insight from President Obama in regards to having an NCAA Football playoff system. But also, an interview with first lady Michelle Obama and reflecting on the past with their relationship. A very good interview featuring a confident, calm but also anxious to get to work President.

* The Road to the White House (December 28, 2008) – This 34-minute interview features President Barack Obama’s road to the White House. Exclusive footage given to “60 Minutes” of Obama’s two year audition to the American people and clips from past interviews with then Senator Obama and his wife Michelle. A very well done compilation of two years of footage from “60 Minutes” showcasing the challenges, the problems but also the high notes of his campaign.

* What You Haven’t Seen – Steve Kroft explains that there was so much footage that did not make it on the air, so this DVD includes an extra 14 minutes of footage. This footage is much more personal as President Obama talks about his upbringing, his mother, Abraham Lincoln and the relationship between Barack and his wife Michelle.
* Major Speeches – This section features six major speeches given by Senator Obama, Democrat nominee for President, President-elect to President Barack Obama.

This DVD represents history in the making. I’m proud to have it in my DVD collection and I hope you’ll pick it up as well.

Say it with me-PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA

barack obama and family

People, history has been made. We have elected, as Stephen Colbert pointed out, our first……

Hawaiian President! Woo HOO!!! Way to go, peoples of Hawaii!

All kidding aside, I can barely put into words how this outcome makes me feel. How hopeful it makes me for the next four (hopefully eight) years of my life and the lives of all of us. President-elect Obama had this to say in his victory speech:

“If there is anyone out there who doubts that America is a place where anything is possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.” You can watch the whole speech here:

He said that to a crowd estimated at 125,000 assembled at Grant Park in Chicago. I also listened to John McCain’s concession speech, and I agree with my husband who admitted it was gracious. Classy, even. McCain still has his Senate seat, his career isn’t over. And I suppose Sarah Palin will go back to Alaska and spend time with her family, maybe run for another office.

For me, the fact that Obama is African-American is not what makes him unique. To me, it’s his age. He’s only 6 years older than me!

Oh my god. I’m only 6 years younger than the PRESIDENT. Do you realize how effin’ old I actually am? *cough* *cough*

Obama understands our modern society. He understands technology, the Internet, text messaging. He knows about YouTube and Twitter and Facebook. I’m not saying he will necessarily actually use any of those while President, but it gives him a perspective on how our country works. It gives him an understanding of how INSTANT everything is these days, how the second the words leave his mouth at any given time, they can be published on thousands of sites online. I think that we who use the Internet will be following this Presidency more closely than we have followed any other.

And I’m glad that the person I’ll be reading about online for the next four years (hopefully eight) is President-elect Obama. It fills me with renewed energy, with a new interest in paying attention to what is happening with our government and it’s policies and decisions. I’m so proud to be an American today. How are you feeling?
