I’m going to say up front that I wasn’t sure if I would like Jonas Brothers: The 3-D Concert Experience all that much, I asked to review it because I knew Nathan would like it. I knew who the Jonas Brothers were because I read Entertainment Weekly, but I had never heard their music.
The Blu-Ray version of the Jonas Brothers 3D Concert Experience comes with three discs- the 1st disc is the movie in both 3D and 2D plus bonus features, the 2nd disc of the movie in 2D plus the bonus features, and the 3rd disc is a digital copy for uploading to a computer. The bonus features are 2 bonus songs plus “Up Close & Personal”- Inside the Lives of the Jonas Brothers on Tour.
So I put in the 1st disc and passed Nathan one of the four pairs of 3D glasses that are included. We put them on and I hit “play”. And then we realized that the very beginning of the movie was not in 3D! It was obvious when the 3D part started, although some kind of symbol or sound indicating it was time to put on or take off the 3D glasses would have been helpful.
First we saw the boys waking up, heading to the concert venue, getting ready for the show, and then the concert starts. Here’s the thing- this concert kind of rocks. I know these are kids, but they are pretty dang talented kids. This is Nathan’s opinion, remember he’s 10:
Good 3D effects, great songs, and I liked the camera work.
And I have to agree, the 3D was pretty cool. There were times when it really looked like Joe was standing about a foot away from me. It really does make the viewer feel like they are right there at the concert. I learned from Amazon.com that this DVD is collection of highlights from the Burnin’ Up concert tour, and the songs performed include “That’s Just the Way We Roll,” “Gotta Find You, “Video Girl,” “S.O.S,” and “Burnin’ Up”. Special guest Demi Lovato joins the Jonas Brothers for “This Is Me,” Taylor Swift presents “Should’ve Said No,” and Big Rob (the boys’ bodyguard) even makes a brief singing appearance. Also included is the never-before-released song “Love Is On Its Way.”
I can understand now why girls go so crazy for the Jonas Brothers, and my recommendation is that you pick up this DVD. If you don’t have Blu-Ray, you can get standard DVD with the same great theater-quality sound. But if you do have access to a Blu-Ray player, the 3D effects really do justify the price.
Pick up Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience on Amazon.com (click the link at the beginning of the post) or in stores. You just might surprise yourself and like it as much as I did!
disclosure: no payment or compensation was received for this review besides the Blu-Ray DVD received from Walt Disney Home Entertainment.
