Nestle announces Libby’s pumpkin shortage

When I visited the Nestle Culinary Center this past April,  I learned that one of the brands under the Nestle label is Libby’s canned pumpkin. Today, I received this press release from Nestle Baking announcing that due to weather problems, there will be a shortage of Libby’s Pumpkin on store shelves! Once the current supply runs out, there won’t be any more until the next harvest.  I’m posting the press release here so that those of you who rely on Libby’s pumpkin for your holiday baking can get to the store and buy what you need before it runs out!

Press Release:

With Thanksgiving only a week away, many will be heading to their local grocery store to stock up on pumpkin products for the holiday although buyer, be forewarned, there may be a shortage this year. Nestle Baking today announced that it expects a shortage of LIBBY’S Pumpkin on store shelves as the country enters the holiday season.

Harvest generally begins in late August and continues until all the pumpkins are picked. This year, heavy rains saturated the pumpkin fields, making it nearly impossible for tractors and other equipment to operate. Agricultural experts evaluate the crop conditions throughout the season and monitor the quality of the fruit during harvest. Currently, an acre of pumpkins sit unharvested in Morton, Illinois – the “pumpkin capital of the world.” The longer the pumpkins sit in these muddy fields, the more likely it is the quality of the pumpkin has declined. Officials have determined that pumpkin which fails to meet quality standards will be plowed under, once the fields dry, to enrich the soil for the 2010 season.

As a result of the weather and the company’s commitment to picking and packing only quality fruit, the 2009 inventory of canned pumpkin will be smaller than planned. Nestle is continuing to ship the last of the already canned inventory. When it’s gone, there will be no more pumpkin available until the 2010 harvest.

Nestle Family School Supplies Giveaway

This giveaway is closed. Congratulations to the winner, comment #27 from Andrea V.!

I was invited to attend a blogger event at Nestle Headquarters in California at the end of September, but I had to decline because the dates overlapped with my trip to IZEAFest. I was really bummed out that I had to miss it, because I had been to the Nestle Culinary Center earlier this year and had such a wonderful time meeting some of the people that make Nestle brands. Even though I wasn’t able to attend the event, Nestle offered me an opportunity to give away a terrific pack of Mead and Five Star brand products, from a campaign they did for back to school on the Nestle Family website.   They sent me the same prize pack so I could see what the giveaway winner would be getting, and I have to tell you, it is pretty cool:

If you’re not familiar with the Nestle Family site, you really should check it out. You’ll find  Halloween snacks and decorations, recipes, and coupons for Nestle Family products like Stouffer’s, Libby’s Pumpkin, Nestle Toll House, Juicy Juice, Ovaltine, and more.  There’s also a link to the wonderful family calendar and organizer from Cozi, I’ve been using it for over a year and it’s terrific.

What I really like best about the prize pack is that there’s something for everyone – the Storybook and Stencil Kit for younger kids, the notebooks and folders for older kids, and the messenger bag has a padded section that makes it a laptop bag too!

WIN IT: To enter this giveaway, leave a comment on this post telling me one thing you and your family are doing to make school mornings go more smoothly. Do you set the breakfast table the night before? Have breakfast in the car on the way to school? Whatever you’re doing, tell me in a comment. Don’t have kids? Visit Nestle Family and browse the site, then come back here and tell me one recipe or tip from the site that interests you. Enter by November 6th at 12:00 PM EST. Open to U.S. only.

Hello from the Nestle Culinary Center!

cross-posted from MomCooks:

stouffers_logoYesterday, Nestle flew me to Solon, Ohio to attend a day-long conference and roundtable discussion on the topic of Let’s Fix Dinner. This morning we started out in the Nestle Baking Kitchen meeting with Jenny from VeryBestBaking.com and eating fresh-baked cookies (YUM). Then we moved into their Culinary Center which is like a huge kitchen with grills and a wood-fire pizza oven station and people chopping and grilling and mixing.

There is Pecan-Crusted BACON, people. I am in heaven.

We’ve only been here an hour and I’ve already been reminded of just how loyal I am to the Nestle brand. I’ve mentioned before that the only acceptable chocolate chip cookie as far as my husband is concerned is ones made with Nestle Toll House Mini Morsels.

Other products made by Nestle include Carnation Condensed Milks, Libby pumpkin, Pria bars, Powerbars, and of course, CANDY. There’s a little tray sitting in front of me with mini butterfingers and nestle crunch bars.

BACON COATED IN BROWN SUGAR, ROLLED IN CRUSHED PECANS, AND BAKED. NOM NOM NOM NOM.

We’re having presentations from a psychologist, an expert on raising teens, Antonia from last season’s Top Chef, and our moderator is a famous Cleveland newscaster. Pretty cool.

I’ll be twittering regularly today with the hashtag #letsfixdinner if you want to keep an eye on those.

I NEED MOAR BACON.
