Today on Table for Five- it’s DVDPalooza!

Okay, that title might not make any sense. But here’s the thing- I’ve been, like, paying attention to my family and whatever, which is great, but I am so far behind on reviews that it’s starting to become this huge weight on my shoulders. And that’s not what blogging and reviewing products is supposed to be. It’s supposed to be FUN.

The fact is, I get excited when someone offers me something new to review, and I say yes to way too many things, and never keep track of how much I’ve said yes to. Then all of a sudden my email inboxes are filled up with polite messages reminding me of things I should have reviewed weeks before, and I sit here mentally berating myself for not being better organized in the first place.

I don’t actually know how I’m going to get caught up completely, but one thing I am going to do is get all the DVD reviews posted. So, I hope you wanted to know what I thought of some of the newest DVD releases, because today, that is what you are going to get. Enjoy! :)

All kinds of nonsense and foolishness

We have a new favorite show here- the Style Channel’s “Clean House”. The host is one Ms. Niecy Nash, who looks fabulous and has no patience for homeowners who fill their homes with clutter.

Watching Clean House makes me feel better about myself as a housekeeper. I mean, I may have a problem with piling stuff up on tables, but the people on Clean House are filling every square inch of every room in their house with stuff. I can see my carpets and floors!

Even still, I have this overwhelming urge to take every single thing out of this house and start fresh. We’re having a neighborhood garage sale next month, and we have So. Much. Stuff. And I can be honest, I am mostly the reason why. I hold on to things for sentimental reasons, or because I think it might come in handy “some day”. I find it nearly impossible to get rid of books, because if I’ve paid for a book rather than get it from the library, it’s because it’s a really good book that I’ve read more than once.

My Mom, who passed away in 1997, was a teacher and collected children’s books. She would go to conferences and come home with tote bags full of Newberry and Caldecott winners. I have her books now, in boxes in my basement, because I have nowhere else to put them. And that’s when I hear Niecy Nash’s voice in my head- if you really love something, why is it in a box in the basement?

I’m participating in a webcast tomorrow with Peter Walsh, the chief Organizer of TLC’s “Clean Sweep”, another show I love. He’s even tougher than Niecy, and often has to remind the people he’s helping on the show that memories are what you hold in your heart, not what you stuff into boxes that gather dust. Wise words indeed.

I don’t just hear Niecy’s voice when I’m looking at clutter in my house. I hear it whenever I think about a lot of the things that I know are holding me back. My weight? My lack of exercise? My crappy diet?

Nonsense. And foolishness. It shouldn’t take a TV show host for me to know that.

Win a DYMO Labelmaker plus tapes!

This giveaway is closed. Congratulations to the winner, GAHome2Mom from the blog Loving Heart Designs!

Ever since I got a DYMO LetraTag labelmaker, I’ve been going a little crazy with the labeling.  I’ll tell you what though, you know what the absolutely most useful labels I’ve made have been so far? Labels for all of the freaking chargers in this house! I was constantly picking them up asking “is this for my phone? my Peek? Nathan’s phone? “  I could never find the charger I wanted when I wanted it. Now I have them all neatly labeled- Mom’s Phone, Peek, Nathan’s phone-and I can always find the one I want!

Not only are there a ton of uses for DYMO labels, but there are so many more KINDS of labels than I realized. When I was contacted about doing this review and giveaway, I got a DYMO home labeler and a box of tapes, and I couldn’t believe it. Magnetic tapes so you can make your own magnetic words for the fridge! Plastic tapes for labeling sippy cups or plastic storage containers, so the label stays on even after washing! Iron-On labels for labeling clothing. Clear labels that look great under photos in scrapbooks.

For some great ideas on how to get your house organized, DYMO has teamed up with professional organizer Jennifer Humes (aka the Clutter Queen) to offer helpful tips when it comes to prepping for the holidays and for new babies. Humes is an expert in the field of “de-cluttering”. For more information on her, please visit her Web site at www.clutterqueen.com. And the best part is, I get to give one lucky winner their own DYMO labeler plus 7 tape refills!
