Max Payne DVD review

Well unfortunately, Chris and I are not only not getting better, we are both getting worse. He is home from work for the third day in a row, and now he’s coughing up green gunk, and so weak he can hardly stand. My throat is irritated and it hurts at the top of my chest when I cough. I really, REALLY hope we can both beat this soon because it is exhausting to be sick and try to parent three kids too.

maxpayneI have no energy to do anything except lay on the couch and watch DVDs. One recent movie I watched was “Max Payne“, the 2-Disc Special Edition, starring Mark Wahlberg. It’s based on a popular video game about a former narcotics agent reassigned to the Cold Case department, seeking both answers and revenge for the murder of his wife and baby. While investigating, Max meets a woman with a wing tattoo on her arm; she soon turns up dead, carrying the wallet she stole from Max. Next, Max’s former partner Alex (Donal Logue) turns up a clue connecting the woman’s grisly dismemberment to the death of Max’s loved ones, but he too winds up slaughtered, in Max’s apartment, of all places.

Now Max is a murder suspect himself, and while trying to figure out what the wing tattoo means, he is drawn into a world of the supernatural. He meets Mona, the sister of the first victim, played by Mila Kunis (“That 70s Show”). She plays a Russian hired assassin who’s character really could have used a tad more backstory. I mean, she looks hot and wears leather and big hulking guys take orders from her, but it’s not apparent at all at first that she’s a trained assassin.

Other stars in this movie include Beau Bridges, Chris O’Donnell, Kate Burton and Chris “Ludacris” Bridges. It’s not a bad movie as far as solve-the-mystery, shoot-em-up movies go. You just have to watch it and remember you are watching a movie based on a video game. And completely suspend your disbelief in order to accept the ending.

The 2-Disc special edition DVD includes both the theatrical and unrated director’s cut (which I watched), and a “making of” documentary. It’s available on Blu-Ray too.

MEGA Brands Kids Zone for Online Games

MEGA Brands Kids Zone is a fun site for kids where they can play online games in a safe environment. Looking for fun games that both your kids and you will enjoy? This is what you’ll find in the MEGA Brands Kids Zone:

No matter what your thrill is, there is room for you here! Embark upon treacherous quests in Legends of King Arthur and Treasure of the Lord Pyrate or blow giant fires in Krystal Warriors and Dragons Mountain. Flex your muscles and brave the gooey world of Plasma Clash, battling dragons, dinosaurs and furious, high tech fighters. Declare your sharp-shooting skills in Command Ops and destroy the universe with fireballs in Dragons Metal Ages. From races, to battles and never-ending multiplayer quests, it’s all here!

My first stop was the Magnext Virtual World.  You use your mouse to control a sphere, enter stations, and play games. Some are single player and some are multiplayer. You collect Magz to earn special moves for your sphere, and you level up by how long you play. There are emoticons and messaging for chat. Of course as with anything online, you should monitor your child closely especially when they are chatting, and talk to them about what kinds of chat is a signal that something inappropriate might be going on.  My 12 year old gets that lecture all the time :)

Since I couldn’t even figure out how to win the first game, I moved on to Legends of King Arthur. That involves searching areas for shields, and games like shooting arrows at targets (castle flags and doors, for example). That one was more my style.

The Struxx tab takes you to a site with building ideas depending on how many pieces are in the Struxx kit you have. My boys love building sets so I don’t know how I missed these cool looking sets! The titles of the sets are somewhat misleading; the Basixx 20x has 234 pieces, not 20. And the Basixx 40x has 408 pieces, not 40. Which explains how you can make something with 330 pieces out of a set called 40x. All I know is, my boys would LOVE these!

Check out the fun games that MEGA Brands has, for your kids and for yourself.  It’s fun, safe, and reinforces creative play with MEGA Brands building sets.  You’ll have fun!

Pizza Elbow Blogroll

I’m so glad it’s Friday! Tonight is Pizza and Video Games night, and Chris got Xbox Live credit from a friend for Christmas and used it to buy a bunch of new albums for Rock Band. We’ll be jamming to Rush’s Moving Pictures right after we have our new Naturals Pizza from Pizza Hut, courtesy of the fine folks at the Zeno Group, who would like me to review it :)

I have a big jumble of thoughts in my head today, they are like a tangle of vines keeping me from staying focused on any one thing. I keep bouncing back and forth from Gmail to Outlook to Bloglines, to…oooh, look! something shiny! Be prepared for a bunch of randomness:

I’ve been actually reading feeds in Bloglines today, instead of just marking them all as “Read” and feeling guilty about it. It’s been like catching up with old friends, although I hope when they see my comments they don’t forget who I am. Elizabeth? Who? Didn’t she stop reading my blog 3 months ago?

Yeah. Guilty as charged. I got so swept up from about the beginning of November until well, just now. Like I’ve been stuck behind a curtain and now I’m peeking my head out to see if anyone notices.

Hey! Guess what! I can’t stand this blog theme anymore! I know, BIG FREAKING SHOCK! Table for Five is changing her theme AGAIN. What is that, five, six, seven themes? Frankly, I’ve lost count myself. Actually, I’ll be getting a professionally designed theme thanks to my new gig as an IZEA Insider, I’ve steeled myself to accept what they come up with even if it looks completely different than what I usually choose. As long as it’s not orange.  Or black.  Or too purple.

Have I told you about my elbow? I haven’t, have I? I woke up on December 26th and my left elbow hurt. Like, ached. I thought maybe I had slept funny, with my elbow bent under me or something. I took some Advil and figured it would stop hurting. It hasn’t. It hurts all the time.

There are no lumps around it, it’s not discolored or swollen, so I don’t think there’s a fracture and I don’t think it’s a tumor. My husband suggested arthritis, because my left arm also feels weaker. Like, it hurts to try to lift up Kaitlyn’s high chair tray, or pick up a full 32 ounce pop cup from the cupholder in the car, which is what I was doing when I said to Chris, have I told you about my elbow?

Arthritis. Next thing you know I’ll be buying a condo in Del Boca Vista and eating dinner at 4:30.  hey! you kids! get off my lawn!

Guess what else? I’m reviving the “They Link To Me, Therefore They Are Awesome!” blogroll!  At least I will be as soon as I find where I saved the document I copy/pasted it into the last time I changed themes.  But could you do me a favor? I’m hoping those of you who subscribe to my feed will see this post, and if you also have Table for Five on your blogroll or links page or whatever you call it, could you let me know? Leave a comment on this post or email me at elizabeth(at)table4five(dot)net. I want to make sure I’m linking up everyone who is linking to me. It will probably be on a separate page if it’s as long as I think it is :)

I’ve been feeling dull lately. Like I’ve lost my ability to poke fun at myself and the world around me, like I’ve become this blog robot. I have a whole category called “Well, it’s funny to me” and it’s woefully underrepresented. I’m going to try to find that again, that spark that I feel like I lost.  I’m actually kind of funny, and really sarcastic, and I feel like that person isn’t always the same one who posts here.  I’d like her to show up more often.

Whoa, that got kind of heavy there. And long, this post is very long, thanks for reading all the way to the end. Coming up next, more DVD reviews and a giveaway of some KN Karen Neuberger chenille socks and some bath stuff, so watch for that one.  Please to enjoy your weekend as well.
