I realized yesterday that BlogHer is in THREE WEEKS. It’s the yearly conference I go to where I learn even more about blogging and do serious networking; it also means I commence the freaking out about what to wear like I do every year. No matter what I take, I’m going to wish I had brought something else.
It’s hotter in Michigan than in San Diego where BlogHer is taking place, which really surprises me. I would have thought that a city that much further South than here would be hotter. We’re surrounded by water on three sides, they are close to the ocean, and yet it’s 89 degrees here today and only 79 in San Diego. The weather for BlogHer calls for mid-70s during the day and mid-60s at night, in August!
My biggest wardrobe challenge is for Friday night of BlogHer, when I’m going to a party at Stingaree held by CheapSally.com, Collective Bias, LifetimeMoms, and Sears. I did a search on Flickr and sure enough, there are a bunch of photos there of people at Stingaree. They are mostly wearing short dresses and high heels. Not a good look when you’re my height and size
Stingaree doesn’t have AC installation, which really surprises me. People packed on a dance floor sweating, and no AC? I’m keeping my fingers crossed that our party is going to be on the rooftop, where there are couches and a bar and an outdoor fire pit. I’m thinking a dark colored top with beading or sequins, black capri pants, and black sandals. Like, Dr. Scholl sandals, not strappy ones, because I have terrible feet and I’d rather be comfortable.
For the day, I’ll be wearing a Bee Squad t-shirt and probably denim capris or regular jeans, depending on what I can find that fits. One thing I have learned from the previous five BlogHer conferences I’ve been to is that no one ever seems to care what anyone else is wearing. I have never heard anyone complain about what someone was wearing. So it’s more my personal hang up about clothes.
Another thing I MUST remember this year – take a bigger purse, BlogHer is no place for a tiny purse. Even with a free conference tote bag of some kind, I always need a separate purse for my wallet, phone, business cards, hairbrush, lip balm, blotting sheets, pressed powder…and no, I can’t leave those in my room. I tried going back and forth to my room last year and it was a disaster.
So, if anyone has a suggestion for cute tops that fit short plus sized ladies and inexpensive but roomy purses, please feel free to leave suggestions in the comments! I’ll just be over here, packing and repacking and running out for something I probably already have but can’t find
